The Music Man

Because I don’t have health insurance... too expensive... I have to visit the state hospital here in South Africa once a month to collect meds, and once every three months to see a doctor to have my prescription filled again.

I’m really not happy about going to a state hospital which to me is always very depressing and leaves my heart hurting for the so many others who also have to endure what goes on there, and so, I always try to come back from my visits with at least one positive story to help me recover, and I do love sharing my stories.  Here’s the first for my blog.

On Tuesday 11th August when I arrived at the state hospital, I went to order my folder by showing my card and then I had to go wait in the waiting room while they searched for the folder to bring it to another window, just so I could pay my R20 fee for it. They had a board up in the window this time... as usual they only came with folders when they were good and ready... I think my son and I sat for over an hour waiting.  Finally they came... we paid and off to the dispensary we went to collect my chronic meds. I was quite frustrated by all the waiting by then.

Sitting in front of us at the dispensary was a young man... he has no earphones in his ears, but he was bopping much better to the music in his head... I guess that's how he passes his time and copes with his frustration of the "long waits!" He was tapping both his hands on the chairs on either side of him to create the drumbeat to go with his "mind music"...

I tried to imagine what song he was playing in his head by the sounds of the rhythmic beating of his hands...

I found him quite entertaining... he took my mind off of my own frustration as we now also had to wait in this another room full of people, for the pharmacy to call my name... so... I felt inspired to write a little poem for this “music man”, but he was called up and gone by the time I was done with the last sentence so I couldn't share it with him.  Maybe I will see him again someday... the things I do to cope in this world... hahahaaa!

He’s got the music in his spirit
The beating of his soul
The power of his being
The drive to reach his goal
Failure is not an option
I see him reaching high
The sky is not his limit
For stars are shining in his eyes

These are the moments that make my world a better place.  Look out for them, because they are always there just waiting to bless us.

Since as far back as I can remember, family, friends, complete strangers and strangely even animals (birds included) have come to me for help and comfort and I have always felt the calling to be there for others in any way that I possibly can.
